North Fork Gordon Creek
2 CFS Screen
- Location: Corbett, OR
- Basin: Sandy
- Partners: Corbett Water, Schupbach Construction
- Installation Date: May 2012
This Farmers Screen project addresses the following issues:
Corbett Water supplies drinking water to approximately 1,100 households in the vicinity of Corbett, OR. One of Corbett Water’s sources is a surface water diversion on the North Fork of Gordon Creek. The diversion is very remote and difficult to reach in the winter months.
FCA installed a custom Farmers Screen into an existing concrete structure. The new Farmers Screen system replaced an out of compliance passive vertical screen which had difficulty handling the high levels of organic debris in Gordon Creek in the fall and the spring.
The new screen system consists of:
- New steel screen components
- New connection to the main line
- New sediment sluice
- New fish return/by-pass structure
North Fork Gordon Creek is a high gradient stream with a mix of conifers and deciduous trees, providing high levels of organic debris. The access to the site is difficult, particularly in the winter months.
The existing diversion structure had a sediment sluice way that was ideally located for installation of a Farmers Screen. New concrete work inside the existing structure allowed for the installation of the custom steel Farmers Screen components. The new screen system delivers a reliable flow of water to the filtration plant and to a micro-hydoelectric system.
