Stony Creek

6 CFS Modular Design

An important spawning habitat and thermal refuge for fish, Stony Creek’s only irrigation diversion was unscreened, thereby entraining out-migrating juveniles and adults in the irrigation ditch.

A modular fish screen was installed which improves upstream fish passage and eliminates entrainment of out-migrating fish. It also provides a low-maintenance screen that ensures reliable flows of irrigation water to a local rancher.

FCA is excited to see how the improved upstream fish passage could help ensure spawning success, especially for fall-spawning species. This installation will likely result in the improvement of migratory fish populations and increase recruitment of both native and non-native species in Rock Creek, into which Stony Creek flows.

Importantly, this installation also provides a low-maintenance screen that ensures reliable flows of irrigation water to a local rancher.
